What is Google Ads and how does it work?

Google Ads, better known as Google AdWords. What actually is it, how does it work, what does a Google Ads campaign cost and why can’t you as a business ignore it? These and many more topics are covered in this blog to give you the information you need.

The name Google AdWords was therefore a fitting name, because advertising with words was the only advertising option at the time.

So it is only logical that the name changed from Google AdWords to Google Ads.

Today there are various ways of advertising and new initiatives, such as visual ads, offered by the advertising platform. That is why the name Google AdWords no longer matched Google’s full product range, as it now offers a broader spectrum of advertising options.

WHAT IS GOOGLE ADS?

Google Ads is an online advertising option for businesses to offer their products and services within Google’s search results, YouTube and other websites.
With a Google Ads account you can set up ads for different audiences, locations and purposes.
Whether you want to generate more traffic to your website or put a promotional campaign in the spotlight, anything is possible!

HOW DOES GOOGLE ADS WORK?

Google Ads: how does it work? Google Ads is a paid way of making use of online advertising opportunities. By using the right keywords, you as a business can respond to consumers’ search behaviour.
By setting up the online advertising platform accordingly, you as an advertiser can determine exactly when which ad is shown.
When setting up a Google Ads campaign, it is very important to take the following into account:

What the goal of the ad is.
The location where you want to show your ad. Think of the geographical settings of your ad.
Set a monthly budget for your ad. As the advertiser, you only pay when a user has clicked on one of your ads.

So it is important to know that Google Ads ads can only be set up once you have selected a monthly budget.
There is also the option of using unpaid methods to generate visitors to your website; this is known as SEO (Search Engine Optimization). With our tips for carrying out an SEO analysis, we help you map out your current website.

By applying the right writing techniques on various landing pages of your website, you can achieve a higher ranking in Google, which will result in more visitors.

WHERE CAN YOU FIND GOOGLE ADS AND HOW ARE THEY DISPLAYED?

There are different ad types you can use:

  • Campaigns within Google’s search results: these are (text) ads people see when they search for your products.
  • Google Ads Display Ads: these are ads with images that are shown on other websites or apps your visitors view. Think of ad banners you see in your Hotmail or within Spotify.
  • Video campaigns: these are played on YouTube before or after a video and last 6–15 seconds.

WHAT DOES A GOOGLE ADS CAMPAIGN COST?

The costs of a Google Ads campaign are determined by your budget settings. Costs are also only charged when a user interacts with one of your ads. There is no minimum spend requirement and you can pause running ads at any time.
So, to answer the question “What does Google Ads cost?”: there is no single correct answer, as it depends entirely on your budget settings and the cost per click you pay for the ad you have created.

WHAT IS GOOGLE ADSENSE?

Google AdSense is Google’s advertising network in which website owners can earn money by placing text and image ads on their own site.
You make ‘space available’ on your own website for other websites to advertise in these spots. The revenue is paid by the advertisers who want to promote their products.

So it is important to know that the difference between Google Ads and Google AdSense is that Google Ads is used by advertisers, and Google AdSense by website owners who want to earn money by offering advertising space on their sites.
